Brown pashmina shawl in cashmere and silk

A pashmina shawl in 60% cashmere and 40% silk, in brown. Silk and cashmere take up dye differently, and in a brown that shows plainly: the colour has a melange depth to it, and the silk lends the surface a sheen that pure cashmere, which stays matte, does not.

The shawl is 200 x 90 cm and weighs 94 grams. It works as an evening wrap across the shoulders, as a scarf folded double under a coat, or as something warm to put over the knees on a long train journey — and it is light enough to be brought along on the off chance. It is handwoven in a basket weave from fine 15 µm cashmere at our own weaving mill in Nepal, where the cloth is set up and finished by the weavers themselves. More on that in handwoven scarves and shawls.
