Mauve pashmina shawl in cashmere and silk

A pashmina shawl in mauve, woven in 60% cashmere and 40% silk. It measures 200 x 90 cm and weighs 94 grams: the cashmere is 15 µm fine and the silk is a smooth filament fibre, which is how a shawl this wide stays this light.

Blending the two fibres does something a single fibre cannot. Silk absorbs colour differently from cashmere, so the finished cloth has a soft sheen and a melange in the colour instead of the flat matte of pure cashmere. The weave here is a basket weave. Wear it wound twice at the neck for warmth, or opened out as a stole over the shoulders when the occasion asks for it. It is handwoven at our own weaving mill in Nepal, alongside the rest of the silk and cashmere shawls.

Care: Because of the silk, this shawl wants gentler handling than pure cashmere. Wash by hand at 30–40°C with a mild liquid soap rather than powder, one piece at a time so nothing coarser rubs against it. Never wring it — press the water out and dry the shawl flat on a towel. Silk has little resistance to UV light, so keep it out of direct sunlight when drying and storing. See also our washing and care instructions.
