A pashmina shawl in beige, woven in 60% cashmere and 40% silk. At 200 x 90 cm it gives you a lot of cloth for 94 grams, which comes down to the two fibres: cashmere at 15 µm and silk spun by the worm as a single continuous filament.
The blend is the reason it does not look like a pure cashmere shawl. Silk takes dye differently, so the colour has a melange quality and the surface a light sheen rather than a matte finish. It is woven in a basket weave. Our page on silk and its origins goes into where the fibre comes from.
Beige is the easy one to reach for: it takes a double turn at the neck as a scarf, or drapes as a stole over a dress. It is handwoven at our own weaving mill in Nepal — the rest of the range is under silk and cashmere shawls.
Care: Wash this one as silk rather than as cashmere: by hand at 30–40°C, one piece at a time, with a mild liquid soap instead of powder, which does not always dissolve properly. Do not wring or bunch the wet fabric — press the water out and dry it flat on a towel. Silk fibres have little resistance to UV light, so dry and store the shawl out of direct sunlight.
