Dark blue scarf knitted in cashmere

A scarf knitted in pure cashmere, in dark blue. Its warmth is not a matter of bulk but of the fibre itself, which measures 15 µm — the fine end of the 15 to 19 µm range that qualifies as cashmere. The thinner the fibre, the finer and more exclusive the finished textile, and at 15 µm this one sits at the good end of that scale.

At 180 x 50 cm it is a scarf rather than a shawl: long enough to loop once and still hang, narrow enough to sit under a coat collar without adding bulk. Dark blue is as easy over a suit as over a winter coat.

Care: Air it outdoors when it is not properly dirty. For washing, use a detergent intended for wool and cashmere — by hand in lukewarm water, or on the machine's wool programme at 30 degrees — and avoid rubbing, which risks felting the fibres. Never tumble dry; press the water out without wringing and dry it flat on a towel. Any pilling where the scarf rubs against a coat lifts off with a cashmere comb.
