Cashmere earns its place in a hat by being warm and light at the same time, and by staying gentle against the forehead where coarser wool does not. Care: Airing beats washing — hang it out overnight whenever it is not actually soiled. When it does need washing, use the wool programme at 30 °C or lukewarm water by hand with a wool and cashmere detergent, press the water out rather than wringing it, and dry it flat on a towel.
