Light grey blouse in silk and cashmere

Silk carries this blouse — 85% of it — with 15% cashmere spun into the blend. That mix is what gives the fabric two qualities at once: the cool, fluid fall of silk, and the softer handle the cashmere lends it against the skin. The colour is light grey, which behaves almost like a neutral in an outfit: it takes navy, camel, white and black without argument, and it is as at home under a blazer on a weekday as it is on its own. The cashmere in the blend comes from Inner Mongolia, where the goats grow the fine winter undercoat that cashmere is combed from.

Care: Wash by hand in lukewarm water with a detergent made for wool and cashmere, or on your machine's wool programme. Avoid rubbing the fabric, press the water out instead of wringing it, and lay the blouse flat on a dry towel afterwards rather than hanging it up wet.
