Navy blue blouse in silk and cashmere

This blouse sits at the silk end of the wardrobe: 85% silk with 15% cashmere blended in. The silk is what you notice first, a smooth fabric that drapes rather than holds a shape, while the cashmere softens the handle and adds a little warmth to the blend. The colour is navy blue, and it wears the way navy tends to: easy with denim, with grey wool trousers, with black tailoring. The round neck keeps the neckline plain, so the blouse layers cleanly under a knit or a jacket and leaves room for a scarf or a shawl. The cashmere in the blend comes from Inner Mongolia, where the goats grow the fine winter undercoat that cashmere is combed from.

Care: Hand wash in lukewarm water using a detergent intended for wool and cashmere, or use your machine's wool programme. Do not rub or wring the fabric; press the water out gently, then dry the blouse flat on a towel rather than on a hanger, so the weight of the water cannot pull it out of shape.
