Sixty per cent cashmere and forty per cent silk give this shawl two things at once: the dry, insulating warmth of cashmere and the smooth fall of silk. The cashmere fibre measures 15 µm, and that fineness is what makes the cloth feel soft rather than woolly against the skin.
The pattern is woven in rather than printed. Jacquard weaving builds the motif into the cloth itself, and a woven pattern reflects the light instead of sitting flat on the surface — which makes this a shawl that suits a wedding dress or another formal occasion. At 70 x 200 cm there is enough length to wrap it twice around the neck, drape it over the shoulders of a dress, or leave it hanging loose down the front of a coat. The colour is rust orange.
It is woven at our own weaving mill in Nepal. If you would like to know more about the two fibres and how the cloth is made, see silk and its origins and our page on weaving. The rest of the collection is under jacquard pashmina.
Care: Wash by hand or on a wool programme at 30 °C with a detergent made for wool, never tumble dry, and dry the shawl flat on a towel. A garment steamer treats the fabric more gently than an iron. Full instructions are on our washing and care page.
