Light blue tartan scarf

A tartan scarf in light blue, woven in Scotland from lambswool. It measures 190 x 35 cm, the long narrow cut that knots cleanly and disappears under a coat collar rather than bunching.

The binding is twill. The thread groups shift by one with every pass of the weft, so a diagonal forms through the cloth, and the pattern stays visible because warp and weft catch the light differently even where they share a colour. Care: Air the scarf outdoors between wears; it needs washing far less often than you would think. When it does, use a wool detergent, by hand in lukewarm water or on the wool programme at 30 degrees, without rubbing the cloth. Dry it flat on a dry towel and keep it away from the tumble dryer.
