A grey scarf in lambswool, woven in herringbone. Herringbone is a variation of the twill weave: the diagonals reverse direction at regular intervals so they form the V-shaped pattern the weave is named after.
The scarf measures 190 x 35 cm, which gives it enough length to loop twice around the neck and enough width to sit flat under a coat collar rather than rolling up.
Both twill and its herringbone variant are set out with examples in our weaving guide. Because the pattern comes from the binding rather than from contrasting yarn, it shows even in a single colour — the warp and weft catch the light differently. The scarf is made in Scotland.
Care: Wash by hand in lukewarm water, or on the machine's wool programme at 30 degrees, with a detergent made for wool and cashmere. Avoid rubbing the wool while it is wet, dry the scarf flat on a dry towel, and never tumble dry it. See our washing and care instructions for drying, ironing and pilling.
