Paisley scarf in orange and red shades

Orange and red are the shades that carry a wardrobe through the months when everything else in it is dark. This paisley scarf is printed in orange and red shades on cloth woven from 100% cashmere at 15 µm — the fineness that gives cashmere its softness against the neck.

At 70 x 200 cm it is long enough to loop twice and still hang, and narrow enough to disappear under a coat collar. Worn open over a plain coat it does the opposite: the paisley is the whole point of the piece. The others are gathered under paisley shawls and scarves, and the wider print selection under printed scarves.

Printing rather than weaving is what allows a pattern this free — some designs are simply not possible on a conventional loom. The scarf is made in Nepal, where we run our own weaving mill.

Care: Air it outdoors when it only needs freshening. When it needs washing, use a wool and cashmere detergent — by hand in lukewarm water, or the wool programme at 30 degrees — and never wring it out.
