Handwoven checkered plaid in cashmere and wool

A throw handwoven in equal parts cashmere and wool. The cashmere is what you feel first — the softness that makes you want to pull it over your shoulders rather than fold it away. The wool is what makes it last: body, resilience and the steady warmth you want from a blanket that stays out all winter.

At 190 x 150 cm this is a proper blanket rather than a decorative throw — long enough to wrap right around you in an armchair, wide enough to lie across the foot of a bed. The check is woven into the cloth in twill, the weave that lays down fine diagonal ribs across the surface.

Care: When the throw is not actually dirty, air it outdoors overnight instead of washing it — that is all a cashmere and wool blend usually needs. When it does need washing, use a detergent made for wool, by hand or on the machine's wool programme at 30 °C, press the water out rather than wringing, and dry it flat.
