How do you tie a scarf?

We opened PashminaWear because scarves and shawls are our great passion and absolute favourite accessory. The great advantage of the scarf is that it always fits. Whether you gain weight or lose it, the scarf never needs to be let out or taken in. But how do you tie a scarf? Do you always tie it the same way? On this page we give you inspiration for how to tie a scarf in new ways.

Tie the scarf the right way

There are many ways to put on a scarf. We will start with one of the simple ones.

The French knot

The simple but always elegant French knot looks best with a long scarf or shawl that may be a little full. In the pictures below we have used a twill-woven pashmina shawl.

  • Tying a scarf - French knot 1

    1. Fold the scarf a few times lengthwise

  • Tying a scarf - French knot 2

    2. Fold the scarf in the middle

  • Tying a scarf - French knot 3

    3. Place the scarf around your neck

  • Tying a scarf - French knot 4

    4. Pull the ends through the loop and tighten it comfortably around your neck

The French knot with a twist

This way of tying the scarf resembles a French knot, but instead of putting both ends through the loop you pass only one through, after which the loop is twisted once and the other end is passed through the new loop. In the pictures below we have used a pink twill-woven pashmina shawl.

  • Tying a scarf - French knot 1

    1. Start as a French knot

  • Tying a scarf - French knot with a twist 1

    2. Pass one end through the loop

  • Tying a scarf - French knot with a twist 2

    3. Twist the loop once

    4. Pass the other end through the loop and tighten it comfortably around your neck
