Light blue tartan scarf

A light blue tartan scarf in pure lambswool. Tartan is the familiar pattern of stripes crossing each other in different colours — originally hand woven locally in the Scottish Highlands, and only given clan names and meanings in the 19th century.

The weave is twill, the diagonal structure described on our weaving page. At 190 x 35 cm the scarf is a standard length: it can hang straight down a coat front, wrap twice, or knot loosely.

Woven in Scotland from lambswool, the wool from the sheep's first shearing. More of the same in tartan and wool.

  • Composition: 100% lambswool
  • Colour: light blue
  • Weaving pattern: twill
  • Size: 190 x 35 cm
  • Country of origin: Scotland

Care: Between wears, airing outdoors overnight is enough. Wash with a detergent intended for wool and cashmere — by hand in lukewarm water, or in the machine on the wool programme at 30 degrees — and dry it flat on a dry towel rather than hanging it wet, which pulls the fabric out of shape. Never tumble dry. See washing and care instructions.
