Off white tartan scarf in cotton

Tartan in off white, woven in 100% cotton. Cotton breathes, washes easily and feels comfortable directly against the skin, which makes a cotton stole useful well past the cold months — over a shirt in spring as readily as under a coat in winter.

At 200 x 100 cm it is wide enough to wear as a wrap across the shoulders and long enough to fold and wind at the neck. Woven in India.

Tartan is the familiar pattern of intersecting stripes in different colours, with the earliest Scottish examples dating back to the 4th century. All tartan cloth was originally woven by hand and made locally, long before anyone thought to give the patterns names. More in our tartan scarves.

Care: Wash it gently in cool water with a mild detergent, and wash pale cloth separately from anything that might bleed into it. No tumble dryer — dry it flat or on a line, where sunlight will also help keep the off white looking fresh. Iron it warm while it is still slightly damp to smooth out the creases.
