Pink checkered scarf i lambswool and silk

A pink checked scarf woven in 85% lambswool with 15% silk. Lambswool comes from the first shearing of the sheep, which is why it feels softer than wool from later clips, and the silk in the blend lends the yarn strength and a smooth finish. The cloth is a basket weave — threads grouped and crossed in pairs rather than singly — which gives a more pliable fabric than a plain weave of the same yarn. At 180 x 70 cm it knots easily at the throat and still opens out wide enough to lie flat across a shoulder.

Care: Lambswool and silk both prefer airing to washing — hang it outdoors overnight and it will usually be fresh again. When it does need washing, use a wool detergent and lukewarm water, by hand or on the wool programme, and avoid rubbing it, as that risks felting the wool.
